WEST MICHIGAN ARABIAN HORSE ASSOCIATION - ALL BREED ACADEMY PROGRAM
The purpose of these classes is to create an enjoyable and affordable division for the beginning rider. Academy shows are offered for exhibitors who compete on lesson horses. These shows are designed to provide a safe environment for students to learn the basics of show ring etiquette. We also need to remember our ethics and follow the rules of these classes:
ALL BREED ACADEMY CLASSES
General Rules: Classes open to Mares & Geldings of any breed. Horses must be lesson horses used in a lesson program. Horses to be prepared as if to give a lesson or to be schooled with work tack permitted as needed. No farm names/logos on horses or riders in the show ring. No hoof clear/black or braids on any horse. Riders age is determined as of or on November1, current year.
Attire: Jodhpurs with jod boots or paddock boots (Saddle Seat) Breeches with boots or paddock boots (Hunt Seat) Jeans or jodhpurs with western or paddock boots ( Western Seat) Sweaters, sweaters & turtleneck or shirt & tie with a sweater Spurs, gloves & whips optional. Hair must be neatly pulled back.
Exhibitors not permitted to wear derbies. Helmets must be worn and are not optional under the age of 18.
Class A/Advanced: Riders who have shown at a Class A or recognized horse show. Only eligible for Class A/Advanced & Pattern classes. Saddle seat must ride with two sets of reins, Western must ride with one hand.
Intermediate Riders: Riders who have not shown at a Class A or recognized horse show but are no longer a beginner. Saddle seat division must ride with two sets of reins. Western division must ride with one hand.
Beginner Riders: Riders who are new to riding & showing. Riders may use a single rein & two hands in any division.
Walk & Trot on the line: Riders who are new to riding & showing, but NOT capable of going around the arena on their own. Riders may use a single rein & two hands for any division.
Maiden: Riders who have not won a class in this division
